Benito Juárez went to war to fight for liberal ideology 
Casimir Pulaski went to war for George Washington in the American Revolution because "I came here, where freedom is being defended, to serve it, and to live or die for it."
Andrew Jackson went to war because he had been captured by the British in the Revolutionary War, his mother and brother died from diseases contracted from working for the British. 
The American soldiers went to war in Vietnam because they were drafted.
